Apprenticeship is a form of education that incorporates workplace training with technical in-school training. For over 20 years, AEC-IEC, has conducted apprenticeship training under standards approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, turning out the very finest of electricians into the Central Ohio workforce and beyond. Many of our graduates now serve the trade and community as electrical contractors giving back to their trade by employing and helping to oversee the education of apprentices now in training.

What Makes the IEC Electrical Apprenticeship Program So Successful?

1. IEC's four-year program curriculum is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship Training.
2. Recognized and  authorized to train by Veteran's Administration.  Veterans may recoup training funds while participating in apprenticeship.
3. Recognized by employers throughout the United States as top of the line, with over 10,000 apprentices participating annually.
4. The American Council on Education (ACE) established, through an intensive review process, that the IEC apprenticeship program for electrical construction workers provides college level instruction.  Apprentices can earn College Credits, specifically applied.
5. Dedicated professional instructors and staff assist in moving apprentices through the program.
6. Apprenticeship consists of a minimum of 144 hours of classroom training per year with lectures, demonstrations, labs and homework, and a comprehensive final that must be passed prior to advancing to the next level.
7. Apprentices complete a minimum of 2,000 hours on-the-job training per year, administered by Independent Electrical Contractors.  
8. With a growth rate in excess of 20% per year, IEC's apprenticeship program is rapidly becoming recognized as the premier electrical apprenticeship program in the industry. Through this combination of education, training, and hands-on experience, students not only learn an understanding of theory, operation, and code. They also learn to develop management and leadership skills.

Earn respectable wages while you learn the skills of an electrician. AEC-IEC Electrical Apprenticeship Program uses on-the-job training (OJT) and classroom instruction to move students from helper status to certified electrician within 4 years. All IEC Apprenticeship Programs are certified by the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship and Training, this means students receive nationally recognized credentials as a Journeyperson (certified Electrician).

AEC-IEC Apprenticeship Program offers job referral services with local electrical member contractors. During the program, apprentices receive well-balanced thorough classroom instruction. Some of the topics covered include residential, commercial and industrial wiring, blueprint reading, applied mathematics, electrical theory and design, motor controls, fiber optics installation and operation, fire alarm installation, programmable logic and many other electrical topics. In addition to classroom training, you may conduct electrical experiments in the lab where apprentices test the electrical theories discussed in class.

Most Apprenticeship Program participants will increase their earnings substantially in just 4 years. Pay reviews are a requirement of a USDL certified apprentice program. AEC-IEC Apprentice Program is certified and apprentice pay is reviewed at certain intervals throughout apprenticeship to assure individual rates meet requirements.

87% of all electrical contractors are independent businesses, operating under the "merit shop" philosophy.
